The ‘Alfa Q4’ system

The Alfa 159 also adopts an evolved version of the permanent 4x4 system with three differentials (with a Torsen C self-locking unit at the centre). The heart of this design is the ‘Alfa Romeo Q4 four-wheel drive’ system, which splits torque constantly and dynamically between the four wheels, reaching the highest levels of active safety and sportiness. The Torsen C self-locking differential sends drive torque 57% to the rear wheels and 43% to the front. The system also guarantees excellent traction in all grip conditions by automatically checking any slipping.

The torque split between the front and rear axles is modulated constantly by the Torsen C central differential on the basis of grip.

This feature harnesses sportiness to enhance active safety. Modulation is mechanical, continuous and gradual, to enhance the perception of optimal, enjoyable, easy driving. There are no gaps in the torque delivery. Where grip is concerned, the behaviour adapts gradually and smoothly to changing road conditions. This ‘mechanical’ control is backed up by electronic stability control, which boosts performance and safety margins, in line with the Alfa Romeo philosophy.

The car is the state of the art in technical terms and offers important advantages:

• Q4 permanent four-wheel drive with a Torsen C self-locking differential makes for better roadholding, entertaining driving and smooth responses. Other technological archetypes with electronically controlled joints do not achieve the optimal balance between understeer and oversteer or the smoothness that are innate in the Alfa 159, and translate into superb active safety.

• The torque split in favour of the rear axle makes driving even more entertaining, because the car is even easier to handle, without detracting in any way from stability during sudden lane changes on the motorway, or other emergency manoeuvres.

• The possibility of travelling safely when grip is poor without having to use electronics to split torque, enhancing the enjoyment of driving.

We could say that the Alfa 159 Sportwagon Q4 interprets four-wheel drive from the Alfa Romeo point of view: it is basically a ‘mechanical’ system enhanced by cutting-edge electronic technology to guarantee maximum comfort and entertainment, combined with superb performance and absolute safety.

mora da su konačno malo dotjerali taj motor, samo mogli su barem izvuč još koji ks sad ima identično kao i stari TB, a zna se da se iz tog motora mogu izvuč performanse, pogotovo kod novo razvijenog i sigurno 10 puta kvalitetnijeg motora nego što je stari... ali dobro bar se radi i dalje nešto i na ovome planu a ne samo na jtd

Autodelta Supercharges Prodrive's Limited Edition Alfa Romeo Brera S 3.2






Making its world debut alongside the Autodelta Alfa Romeo 159 J4 3.2 C at this weekend's MPH09 Motor Show in London is the yet another Autodelta model, the Brera 3.2 C Compressore which is based on the UK market Brera S. A recent project between Alfa Romeo UK and Prodrive, the limited edition Brera S 3.2 features many upgrades the most significant being a weight loss of 100 kg (220 pounds) thanks to the use of front-wheel drive rather than the standard Brera V6's Q4 all-wheel drive system and a sportier suspension.

Autodelta's proposal completes the overall package by adding a supercharger to the mix as well as further improving handling.

The addition of Autodelta's supercharging kit with an intercooler boosts the 3.2-liter V6 engine's output from 260 bhp and 322 Nm to a more potent 352-horsepower and 435 Nm (320.8 lb-ft) of torque. No performance figures have been released yet for the Brera S 3.2 Compressore.

Traction is further improved by the fitting of Autodelta's bespoke mechanical limited slip differential (LSD) that operates in combination with the Brera's standard electronic Q2 system. According to the tuner, the mechanical LSD works in a more natural way as the Q2 only operates in more extreme driving scenarios by applying the brakes to transfer power to the required corner, offering better feedback to the driver.

Finally, the package includes Autodelta's height-adjustable Sportline suspension kit. The new coilover suspension features specific new spring rates and 40 different firmness adjustment settings that can adjusted by the driver.
