Krajem 1997. stigao je model 156, koji je osvojio titulu &#8216;Europskog auta 1998. godine&#8217;, a u Milanu su ozbiljno radili na klasu ve\u0107em modelu 166, koji je ve\u0107 bio u opticaju u verziji s volanom desno.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Trebao je nasljednik, razmjerno uspje\u0161nog <a class=\"articleLinks\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoportal.hr\/clanak\/vremeplov_alfa_romeo_164_1987_1998_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">modela 164<\/a>, koji je naslijedio model 90, dijelom i ve\u0107i 6, a prije njih bio je <a class=\"articleLinks\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoportal.hr\/clanak\/50_godina_alfa_romeo_berlina_1968_1977_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kultni 1750<\/a>, svojevrsna &#8216;Giulia na kvadrat&#8217;. To je ispravljeno redizajnom iz 2003. Gabaritima 4720 x 1815 x 1416, a i me\u0111uosnim razmakom od 2700 mm tada je bio na pragu vi\u0161e srednje klase (E-segmenta), a po dana\u0161njim bi mjerilima to bila prava srednja klasa (D-segment).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Osnovni se model pokretao poznatim dvolitra\u0161em s dvije svje\u0107ice po cilindru 2.0 T.S. sa 155 KS, \u0161to je ve\u0107 osiguravalo pristojne performanse (9,6 s, 213 km\/h).
